About Mekanism

Mekanism is a classic tech mod with a clear progression path. Ore processing goes from doubling to quintupling, and the late game adds fission and fusion reactors, digital miners and the MekaSuit.

It moves gases and chemicals through pressurized tubes, which makes factory layouts interesting to plan.

Configuration

General settings, including radiation, are in the config/Mekanism folder. Server values apply per world or server.

Compatibility

Minecraft versions with at least one release on Modrinth, synced 2026-11-07. Always download the file that names your exact version and loader.

How to install Mekanism

Install on NeoForge
  1. Install NeoForge for the Minecraft version you want (1.20.1 – 1.21.1 supported). See how to install mod loaders.
  2. Download the Mekanism file for your exact Minecraft version and NeoForge from an official source.
  3. Put the .jar files in the mods folder of your game directory or instance.
  4. Launch the NeoForge profile. Check the Mods menu to confirm Mekanism loaded.

Notes for Mekanism

  • Generators, Tools and Additions are separate official modules. Each must match your Mekanism version.

Common problems and fixes

A module (Generators, Tools, Additions) fails to load.

All Mekanism modules must be the exact same version as Mekanism itself. Download them together.

Radiation is spreading after a reactor or waste spill.

Radiation is a real mechanic. Contain waste properly; server owners can turn radiation off in the general config.

Frequently asked questions

How does ore processing scale?

Each tier adds a machine. Enrichment Chamber gives 2x, Purification Chamber 3x, Chemical Injection Chamber 4x and Chemical Dissolution Chamber 5x.

Do I need the Generators module?

Mekanism machines need energy. Generators provides Mekanism's own power sources; you can also use power from other mods.
